Our former staff member Massimiliano Guasoni was recently awarded with and ERC Starting Grant (congrats!).
Here we post a message where he describes the job profiles he is searching for his project.
I am looking for 1 PhD and 1 PostDoc working in my ERC Starting Grant project MODES (Multimode light shaping: from optical fibers to nanodevices), that will start the 1st December 2018.

The ideal candidate has experience in fabricating waveguides and nanoantennas (Si and SiGe);  good knowledge of nonlinear optics; basic knowledge of Comsol or similar software tools (for the design of waveguides/nanoantennas) ; basic knowledge of Matlab programming to simulate the propagation and interaction between multiple modes of the waveguides/nanoantennas.

The two main objectives of the project are:

1) Generation of light in the mid and long-infrared, exploiting nonlinear interactions between different modes of Si and SiGe waveguides. The generation of light in the mid and long-infrared is a hot-topic having application in many different fields (e.g. medical, military, sensors ).

2) Controlling the second / third harmonic radiation profile in arrays of multimode nanoantennas. This is another hot-topic with many applications.
